Residents in the Kennebecasis Valley are coming together in support of a long-time football coach in their community.
Michael Mangusso was recently let go as coach of the Kennebecasis Valley High School football team.
An online petition launched calling for him to be reinstated had garnered nearly 1,500 signatures as of early Friday afternoon.
Rob Barton, who started the petition, said Mangusso was more than just a mentor to his son and hundreds of other student-athletes.
“Over his tenure, Mike’s impact on the football program has been nothing short of transformative. He led us through countless victories and losses alike with grace and resilience,” wrote Barton.
“His leadership not only improved team performance but also fostered an environment where students could grow as individuals.”
Barton said the coach’s influence extended beyond the field, with Mangusso instilling “morals and values in our children, guiding them to be their best selves and encouraging them to contribute positively to our community.”
“The abrupt parting of such an influential figure raises questions about transparency within our sport community. We believe that someone who has dedicated so much time and effort into shaping young lives deserves better treatment,” said Barton.
When reached earlier this week, Mangusso declined to comment at this time.
