Mounties say one of their officers suffered serious injuries after being dragged during a traffic stop in northern New Brunswick.
Police said they received a report Monday morning that a vehicle stolen from Listiguj, Que., was heading toward Campbellton.
An RCMP officer found the vehicle a short time later on Tingley Crescent and began a traffic stop.
Mounties said the driver initially complied with the officer — until he was told that he was being placed under arrest.
“The man put the vehicle in drive and attempted to flee the scene,” RCMP said in a news release.
“The vehicle collided with the police officer, who was dragged alongside the car until it left the roadway and crashed into a residence.”
Mounties said the officer was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The 35-year-old Charlo man driving the vehicle was arrested at the scene and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
