Terrifying tours of the old Albert County Jail.
The facility built in 1845 is opening its doors on October 27 and 28th for Halloween. It’s the first time they’ve held a Halloween-type tour.
“The jail has two storeys. The first storey is where the cells are, and the second story is where the living quarters are for the jailkeepers. We never decorated the jail cells because they were scary enough. They have the original graffiti from the latter half of the 19th and early 20th century. We also have an audio-visual, telling the story of the Tom Collins murder trial. He was tried three times and finally, they convicted him. He was the only hanging to happen in Albert County and the last hanging to happen in New Brunswick,” Past President of the Albert Country Historical Society Stuart Liptay told our newsroom.
He adds the old jail will be open from 6 pm until 9 pm, and they’ll hold two types of tours. One with all of the visual effects and with scare actors for those who really want to be frightened, and another where they can go through with a lantern if they want.
Liptay says there’s also a possibility some spirits might show up, “We’ve had numerous paranormal investigators come in and every one of them have had hits.”
It’s $5 a person to get in, with the funds going towards the upkeep of the Albert County Museum.
“It’s a great cause, and you’ll learn something. If you want to be scared, you will be scared,” Liptay adds.
