A slice of raspberry pie wasn’t the only treat for Charlotte Michaud and her husband Carol of Oromocto, New Brunswick.
While having lunch at their favourite restaurant, the Sunshine Diner in Fredericton, the couple decided to purchase a Set For Life ticket.
It ended up being a top prize winner.
“My husband asked for a piece of raspberry pie, his favourite, and I said, ‘Well, I’m not going to sit here and watch you eat that pie,’” Michaud said. “So, I went and got a ticket.”
After Charlotte scratched her ticket, she showed her husband, but he didn’t think much of it as he continued to enjoy his raspberry pie.
“So, I took it back over and said, ‘I think I have a winning ticket, could you verify it for me?’”Michaud said. “He just froze at the screen, so I said, ‘Did I win or not?’ and he said, ‘Yes, I think
so!’”
Atlantic Lottery’s Set for Life is a $4 Scratch’N Win ticket that offers two options for the top prize. Winners can choose to receive $1,000 a week for 25 years, or a lump sum payment of
$675,000. Michaud will receive the lump sum payment.
Claiming the win, was a bit of deja vu.
The couple had previously took home the second prize in Daily Grand in 2018, of $500,000.
The couple intends to share the prize money with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Regulars at the Sunshine Diner, also plan to treat the entire staff to dinner at a nice restaurant so they can celebrate together.
“We like them, and they like us,” Carol said, “We’re there nearly every day.”
“They say we’re their favourite customers,” Michaud added. “We’ll have fun because they’re fun people.”
