A man is facing firearms-related charges after a weekend traffic stop in Saint John.
It started with a report of a suspicious person parked in the St. Paul Street area late Sunday evening.
Police said the vehicle left the area before officers arrived, but they found it in a nearby drive-thru.
“Officers proceeded to check the driver who attempted to conceal what they believed to be cocaine,” police said in a news release on Tuesday.
Police arrested a 27-year-old man who was found to be wearing a bulletproof vest.
Officers also found a stolen loaded handgun during a search of the vehicle.
The man is charged with possessing a firearm in a motor vehicle, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm, and possessing a stolen handgun.
He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on Thursday for a bail hearing.
