Three more federal Liberal cabinet ministers say they will not be reoffering in the next election.
Transport Minister Omar Alghabra, Public Services and Procurement Minister Helena Jaczek, and Fisheries and Oceans Minister Joyce Murray made separate announcements on Tuesday.
In a video posted to social media, Alghabra said he will also be stepping down as cabinet minister.
“The prime minister deserves a cabinet who is committed to running in the next federal campaign,” said Alghabra.
“This was not an easy decision. It’s always tricky to figure out the best timing for such a step, but I feel it’s the right time for me.”
In a series of tweets, Jaczek said she looks forward to being able to dedicate more time on the ground in her community.
“I want to thank the Prime Minister for entrusting me with two Cabinet portfolios as well as including me on numerous Cabinet Committees as we debated the important issues facing Canadians,” said Jaczek.
“Most importantly, I want to thank the people of Markham-Stouffville for your support and confidence for so many years as your elected representative.”
Murray, who also made her announcement in a series of tweets, said her work in politics and time serving as an elected official has been the honour of her life.
“It has been a privilege to advance work in tackling climate change, nature conservation and improving the lives of Canadians, and I look forward to continue engaging with these challenges,” said Murray.
Tuesday’s announcements came one day after Mental Health and Addictions Minister Carolyn Bennett said she will also not seek re-election.
This all comes amid reports that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is preparing to shuffle his cabinet.
Several media outlets are reporting that the cabinet shuffle could come as early as Wednesday.
