An emergency alert issued for an armed person in the Minto area has ended.
In an update around 6:40 p.m. Sunday, RCMP said residents can now leave their homes again.
“An Alert Ready incident in the Minto region has now concluded and one individual is now in custody,” the police force said.
“Police remain in the area as part of the ongoing investigation.”
Residents in the area were told to stay in their homes as police searched for an armed individual.
An emergency alert was issued by the New Brunswick RCMP shortly after 5:15 p.m. Sunday.
Police had said they were searching for a man around 55 years old who had fired a gun in the community.
Mounties said the person was “believed to be carrying firearms with dangerous intent” in the Minto area.
It is not yet known whether anyone was injured during the incident.
