Two New Brunswickers have been arrested as part of a national operation targeting the manufacturing and trafficking of privately made firearms.
New Brunswick RCMP began an investigation into the manufacturing of 3D printed firearms after receiving information from the Integrated Firearms Trafficking Team.
On Tuesday, officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Broad Road in Geary, about 25 kilometres southeast of Fredericton.
They seized 11 firearms, including restricted and prohibited firearms, eight 3D printed hand fun frames, eight overcapacity magazines, four body armour carriers with plates and six prohibited weapons.
Officers also found prohibited 3D printed firearm devices, one prohibited firearm conversion kit, several thousand rounds of ammunition, and other firearm manufacturing parts.
A 25-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man were arrested at the scene and later released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
In total, officials have arrested 45 people from eight provinces, including New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia.
Police said they seized a total of around 440 traditional and 3D firearms along with 52 3D printers.
