Saint John Police will be conducting an aggressive driving campaign next week from May 15-19.
Police say traffic officers will be using education and enforcement as they target moving offences including speeding, tailgating, unsafe lane changes, disobeying traffic lights or stops and driving without due care and attention.
According to Transport Canada, there were 1,768 motor vehicle fatalities in Canada in 2021 and speeding was a contributing factor in almost a quarter of the cases.
If convicted of moving offences, police are reminding drivers about penalties such as fines and loss of demerit points.
Police add fines are doubled in construction zones and criminal code driving offences can result in incarceration.
