St. Martins is gearing up for the second annual Fundy Sea Shanty Festival this summer.
The international event will feature sea shanty performances, workshops, meals, and children’s activities.
Gary Caines, the festival’s artistic director, said they are building on the success they saw last year.
“Last year was, by most accounts, a good success for an inaugural event,” said Caines. “We’re optimistic that this year will be even bigger and better.”
Performers from five provinces and five nations are expected to take to the stage at the three-day festival.
They include The Johnson Girls, Wellington Sea Shanty Society, Croches Dedans, The Mighty Ship, Taproom Growlers, Castlebay, Before The Mast, Yarmouth Shantymen, Melanie Ross, and Craic At The Cask.
This year will also see the return of Chris Ricketts, who Caines said was “probably the most talked about performer from last year.”
Lennie Gallant from Prince Edward Island and former Great Big Sea member Séan McCann will headline the festival.
“Last year, we were hesitant to go that big but, based on the success, I think we can handle that,” said Caines.
Caines said they plan to double the number of passes available this year, from 350 a day to 700.
In addition to the performers, there will be storytellers and presentations, food and drink, workshops, and family activities.
The Fundy Sea Shanty Festival runs from Aug. 11 to 13. Tickets are on sale through their website by clicking here.
