It’s a merrier Christmas for Saint John’s neighbourhood associations thanks to the port.
Port Saint John donated $25,000 to the five priority neighbourhoods surrounding the port.
It means the Carleton Community Centre, ONE Change, Crescent Valley Resource Centre, P.U.L.S.E. and the Waterloo Village Neighbourhood Association will get $5,000 each.
“We know that many are struggling to make ends meet this year, so we are happy to be able to make this donation to support these five charities that do so much to help our priority neighbourhoods,” said Craig Bell Estabrooks, president and CEO of Port Saint John.
“It’s our responsibility as a member of the Saint John community to be responsive to local needs and we hope that this donation will fill a gap for these organizations.”
Tamara Kelly is the executive director at The ONE Change Inc.
“ONE Change would like to take the opportunity to thank the Port of Saint John for their donation to our organization. This is a great example of the Port supporting community organizations that work in Saint John. The donation from the Port will assist us in offering quality programming to the residents (youth to senior) in the Old North End. Having the Port as a community partner highlights their support of the work we do within our community,” Kelly said.
Anne Driscoll is the executive director of the Crescent Valley Resource Centre.
“We are so appreciative that Port Saint John recognizes the need is great in our community and is taking an active role to support the work of these neighbourhood organizations. These funds will assist the Crescent Valley Resource Centre in enhancing our programs and services in 2023,” Driscoll said.
Jen Brown is the executive director of the Carleton Community Centre.
“The Carleton Community centre extends our appreciation and gratitude to Port Saint John for the generous donation. This donation will help us deliver programming to our vulnerable, youth, and senior population on the lower west side. The Port has been a dedicated community partner and we look forward to working together in 2023,” Brown said.
Mary LeSage is a neighbourhood developer at P.U.L.S.E. Inc.
“PULSE would like to thank the Port of Saint John for their continuing support of our organization and the residents of the Lower South End over the past several years. Partners like the Port allow us to provide basic necessities to residents like food and personal care supplies from our Help Yourself pantry and emergency food program. Working with limited resources, donations like these are instrumental. Their support for summer programs hosted at PULSE are a hit with residents of all ages and provide opportunities for people to come together. The Port is part of our community and we appreciate their commitment to the neighbourhood,” LeSage said.
Jasmine Chandra is the chair of the Waterloo Village Neighbourhood Association.
“The Port Saint John’s donation to the Waterloo Village Neighbourhood Association is greatly
appreciated. This money will help to support our food security initiatives and the residents who access these services,” Chandra said.
