It is a new era for curbside collection in the city of Saint John.
Beginning the week of October 23, the city will introduce its new Waste Wise program.
It comes as Common Council gave its final approval on the new solid waste bylaw on Monday night.
Curbside collection of garbage, recycling, and composting will be included in this new program.
Households will be able to use green and blue recycling bins. The green bin is for plastics, tin cans, aluminum, and milk cartons. The blue bin is for paper, a boxboard, and cardboard.
Most residents will also get a garbage cart that will work with the “helping hand” technology, while others in special collection areas and those who receive weekly service will be under the urban bag tag system.
Any extra garbage outside of the limit will require a $2 bag tag.
The City of Saint John will update its Shape Your City website with more information regarding the bag tag program at a later date.
