Random acts of kindness will be an ongoing theme on Saturday, September 17th.
It’s Rebecca Schofield Day.
The Riverview teen passed away in February of 2018 after a battle with cancer.
Her mom Anne says her daughter was afraid she would be forgotten but her legacy of inspiring others to be kind to each other lives on, “It warms my heart to know that people remember her with kindness and have stories to share. There’s a smile that comes on their face. They want to share how she impacted their lives. It’s a beautiful legacy she has left, a beautiful gift she has left our family.”
Becca created #Beccatoldmeto which has been used on social media around the world.
“She was afraid that she had not lived long enough to have a purpose. To see that her legacy continues, we still get messages from people that do acts of kindness in her name. She is still talked about in schools,” Anne says.
It is the fifth annual Rebecca Schofield Day, On May 14, 2017, the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick unanimously passed a motion recognizing the third Saturday of September each year in her honour.
Ann says she will be taking time with family and friends to perform Random Acts of Kindness, but there are other events as well.
The second annual Becca Told Me To Ride will also be held, “It’s a motorcycle ride and it’s a group of veterans that are organizing it. It starts at Rossano’s Restaurant on Mountain Road. Registration is from 9 am to 10:30 am, with kickstand up at 11 am. It’s a two-hour motorcycle ride on a pre-determined route, and it ends with a barbecue afterwards. The cost is $25 per rider and $10 per passenger and the funds are going to the Rebeca Schofield fund, which is a fund that we started with the Friends of the Moncton hospital to raise money to help cancer patients as they go through their treatments,” Anne told us.
Earlier this week, employees from Cardinal Health Canada spent the afternoon at the Rebecca Schofield All World Super Play Park, repairing damage from recent vandalism as well as picking up garbage and putting new plants in the garden, “They donated their time and their afternoon to give the park a little bit of a facelift,” Anne says.
The President of this company along with a few others came from Ontario just to help with the work.
