100 Women Who Care of Greater Saint John has made its latest donation to a local charity in the city.
Operation Feed Saint John will receive a cheque for $25,000 from the group of generous women.
Every three months, the women hear presentations from three local charitable organizations and then vote on which one to donate to. Each woman who attends the meeting writes a cheque for $100 to the winning charity.
Tuesday night was the first time Operation Feed Saint John presented to the group of women. The Teen Resource Centre and Avenue B Harm Reduction also gave presentations.
“We are confident that our impact on our local charitable communities will continue to thrive for many years to come, and our donations are especially needed during these very challenging times that the Coronavirus pandemic has shone upon us,” said Debbie Rathwell, who co-founded the local chapter.
100 Women Who Care also heard from the founder and CEO of the Compassionate Grief Centre, which received a donation of $27,740 from the group in March.
Jamie Godfrey said thanks to the support, they were able to escalate the launch date for their new “Living with Cancer” program.
“Because of you, and some other supporters, we offer all our ‘Living with Cancer’ programming at no cost to the person living with cancer or their care partner that also needs support,” said Godfrey. “We will continue to do this as long as we have the monetary support going forward.”
The local chapter of 100 Women Who Care has donated more than $961,000 to more than 30 charities since its inception in 2013.
