Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the federal Liberal caucus are in New Brunswick this week.
The National Caucus Retreat is being held at The Algonquin in Saint Andrews.
During remarks on Monday, Trudeau discussed how the federal government needs to build an economy where everyone can thrive.
“An economy where everyone has real opportunities for meaningful work, an economy where people can count on their neighbours, on their communities, and yes, on their government to have their backs.”
Trudeau mentioned during the speech as Parliament is set to head back from its summer vacation that the Liberal party will continue to be there for all Canadians.
“Our Liberal team has a plan that leads forward, towards tremendous prosperity for all. Let’s remember who we are and what we stand for. Let’s be there to keep making life more affordable and creating good jobs for Canadians.”
Trudeau also congratulated Pierre Poilievre on becoming the new leader of the federal Conservative Party.
However, Trudeau mentioned that it is not the time for politicians to exploit fears and pit people against one another.
“I want to congratulate Mr. Poilievre on becoming the leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition … we’ve been making every effort to work with all Parliamentarians and we will continue to do so.”
“But, this doesn’t mean that we’re not going to be calling out highly questionable, reckless economic ideas,” continued Trudeau.
Parliament is set to return next week.
