New Brunswick teachers have a new resource at their fingertips to help integrate agriculture into lessons, with the launch of a new website by the province’s top agricultural authority.
The Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick (AITC-NB) announced on August 29 that it has launched a new website that allows teachers to draw on a database of agricultural curricular resources for their lessons.
The website is a move on the part of the AITC-NB to make agriculture education more accessible for teachers, by “bringing agriculture into every classroom across the province.”
AITC-NB President Christian Michaud said agriculture in the classroom is essential and necessary to support the industry going forward, for generations to come.
“The new website makes AITC-NB’s programs more accessible to teachers in the province and will also impact more students. Exposure from Kindergarten to Grade 12 is our goal,” Michaud said.
The website, funded through the Canadian Agriculture Partnership, allows teachers to help students find scholarships and support to build careers in New Brunswick’s agriculture and food production sectors.
The Canadian Agriculture Partnership is a five-year $3-million federal, provincial/territorial investment aimed at strengthening Canada’s agriculture sector – one that includes agri-food, agri-products.
The release says AITC-NB’s website has a series of online resources and program summaries that teachers can incorporate into their lessons. Local farmers can also use the website to help find opportunities to work with local teachers or to volunteer for initiatives hosted by the alliance.
“The website supports teachers and makes incorporating agriculture education into classrooms easy and enjoyable,” says the release.
Part of what’s available on the AITC-NB’s website includes current programming such as Little Green Sprouts, Little Green Thumbs, Spuds In The Tub, Career Case and Hydroponics With COVE.
