Country music fans are expected to flock to Dieppe in August.
YQM Country Fest, Country in the City, was announced today.
It’ll be held at the MusiqART site located next to the UNIplex.
It will bring performers including Blake Shelton and Florida Georgia Line to Dieppe on August 26 and 27.
Mayor Yvon Lapierre says that site was originally reconstructed for the Congrès Mondial Acadien in 2019, “We estimated the crowd around 20,000 people for that event so that’s kind of the target we have.”
Lapierre says this is a big deal for Southeast New Brunswick, “Hotel rooms are going to get booked, and a recognition of the area of Dieppe for holding a major event. So I think it will put Dieppe on the map and the whole Southeast region on the map.”
Lapierre says the site was originally created with the potential to hold outdoor concerts, “It is within the city limits, and it is close to where the old Centennial Arena used to be. It is a great space and it was designed that way so it is a great space to design outdoor concerts. “We just want to add to the events that take place in our part of the world. We know we have great summers and great communities that want to be known better.
He adds that the site hasn’t served its purpose since 2019, because of the pandemic, but, “Certainly as we are exiting that pandemic, this will be a great opportunity, almost like a victory celebration.”
