Russia has launched an invasion on Ukraine.
Explosions rang out in several cities in Ukraine earlier today.
Vasyl Buchko moved to Moncton from Ukraine just two months ago.
He has been filled with a mix of emotions since the attack began last night, “Combination of reactions. It’s not one emotion. Sadness, and I am angry at the same time and it is terrible what is going on. I have relatives and friends, and they attacked every part of Ukraine, every region.”
Buchko says many of his family and friends live in Ukraine.
His parents live just 20 kilometres away from an airport, which was reportedly attacked earlier today.
“Unfortunately people are killed. We don’t know how many people were killed. I didn’t believe it could happen in the 21st century. They are criminals but I didn’t know they are crazy.”
Vitaliy Stoyan is also originally from Ukraine, but now lives in Moncton. “I woke up at midnight last night, and I have been exchanging messages with my sister, she is a doctor. I also spoke to my mom and my in-laws as well. I’m really worried because they are dealing with someone who is not reasonable. Russian President Vladimir Putin is a maniac.”
The public is invited is show their support with the Ukranian Club of Moncton at 5 o’clock Thursday night.
They’ll gather in front of Moncton City Hall.
