Police say a 35-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries following an early morning shooting in Saint John’s north end.
The Saint John Police Force said officers responded to a 911 call of a shooting in the St. Paul Street area just before 7:40 a.m. Monday.
“A nearby residence was contained. The Emergency Tactical Services responded to secure the residence and ensure the safety of those inside. No other injured persons were located,” police said in a news release early Monday afternoon.
Police had asked residents in the area to shelter in place while the incident was unfolding.
Our newsroom saw several officers with their guns drawn in front of a building at the end of St. Paul Street.
The police force’s armoured rescue vehicle also arrived on the scene shortly before 10 a.m. Monday.
A number of people were seen coming out of the building with their hands in the air. They were placed into handcuffs and into the back of police vehicles.
Officers also escorted at least two people from the building into the back of the armoured vehicle before taking them to a nearby vehicle.
There is no word of any arrests at this point as the Major Crime Unit continues its investigation.
