New Brunswickers are being asked to take reduce their energy consumption during the busiest periods of the day while we experience a bitter cold snap this week.
NB Power has asked everyone to reduce electricity use all day Tuesday and until mid-morning on Wednesday.
Consumers are asked to put a specific focus on the hours between 6 and 9 a.m. and 4 to 8 p.m.
The utility is recommending small changes like turning down the heat in rooms you are not using.
Other ways to avoid the peak include running the dishwasher overnight or using the washing machine in the middle of the day.
During cold snaps, every New Brunswicker can help reduce electricity demand. Use wood stoves, fireplaces or other fuel…

A similar ask from Saint John Energy as the utility calls on its customers to do their part to help “shave the peak” Tuesday and Wednesday.
In a series of tweets, the utility says peaks increase energy costs, and lead them to use electricity from more expensive fossil fuels.
Customers are asked to watch for the #PeakAlert hashtag on Twitter and, where possible, limit the use of major appliances.
Saint John Energy had big success with its efforts to reduce electricity usage during recent cold snaps.
The initiative garnered an award last year for the company from the Canadian Electricity Association.
#PeakAlert Remember those from last year?
It's very cold this week, so the grid is under extra pressure and we're going to reach a few energy peaks in the coming days… 1/3 https://t.co/eo3QDzizeh
