The City of Saint John is in agreement with Rogers Media Inc to become a host city for Rogers Hometown Hockey.
The City will partner with Envision Saint John and Port Saint John to host the event along the waterfront.
“We’ll use the cruise terminals of the port and the associated parking lots as the venue, Envision Saint John will provide some funding out of the tourism levee, and the City will provide an over arching coordination effort,” said City Manager, John Collin to Common Council.
City officials mentioned in a report Rogers will deliver a COVID-19 safe festival and host a broadcast of an NHL game.
“However, there is an understanding with Rogers Hometown Hockey that depending on how COVID-19 unfolds, the City reserves the right to cancel the event up to seven days before its execution,” added Collin.
The last time Saint John hosted the event was in October 2016 on Long Wharf.
It is expected Rogers Hometown Hockey will bring in between $500,000 to $1 million for local and regional economies.
