Mounties have launched a fraud investigation into a former car dealership in the Fredericton area.
The RCMP say they have received several reports of possible frauds at DMR Auto Sales in Richibucto Road.
It involves customers who traded in vehicles with an outstanding balance between Jan. 2020 and Sept. 2021.
Police said in some cases, the vehicles were sold to new owners without the balance being paid off, leaving the original owners with payments for both their new and old vehicles.
“In many cases, the previous owner continued to have funds withdrawn from their account after the sale of the traded-in vehicle.” Const. Francois Ouellet with the New Brunswick RCMP Financial Crime Unit said in a news release.
Ouellet said they are working with the two owners of the former business to try and identify additional victims.
The former owners are fully cooperating with the investigation and no arrests have been made, said police.
Mounties ask anyone who bought a vehicle from DMR Auto between Jan. 2020 and Sept. 2021 to check their financial activity for any inconsistencies.
If you suspect you may have been a victim of fraud, you should contact the RCMP Financial Crime Unit at 506-452-4219.
