A dream became a reality in Calgary on Thursday for Danny Joyce.
The Saint John man and his family loved to cheer on the Saint John Flames, the former Calgary Flames affiliate.
Joyce loves to sing, and when a local radio station pulled a prank on him pretending to offer him an anthem singing gig for the Saint John Flames, word spread quickly, and that joke soon turned into reality.
Unfortunately, Joyce was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2020.
He has since completed surgery/treatments and is now on the road to recovery.
It has been Joyce’s dream to sing the national anthem at the Saddledome in Calgary, and on Thursday, Joyce did just that, and performed the national anthem in front of the “C of Red”.
Last season, the Calgary Flames played a recording of Joyce singing, however, the organization made a promise that when fans returned to the stands the franchise would invite him to the city to fulfill that dream.
