In Ottawa, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Thursday a ‘national standardized’ vaccine passport so Canadians can use it to travel abroad.
“So, people can travel domestically, but particularly internationally,” said Trudeau.
Each province and territory will be responsible to roll out the proof of vaccination system, and so far, eight of the 13 have adopted the new system.
“I’m happy to confirm that all provinces and territories have confirmed that they will be moving forward with a standardized proof of vaccination.”
“We will be picking up the tab at the federal level to ensure all provinces can do it, and we will also move forward on our other commitments on vaccinations and safety,” Trudeau said.
He mentioned the remaining provinces are working hard to get the vaccine passport up and running.
The proof of vaccination document will come with a SMART Health Cards QR code, and will only show an individuals COVID-19 vaccination history.
“You can download it onto your phone, you can print it out, ask for a copy by mail,” added Trudeau.
