Police in the Kennebecasis Valley have issued a warning about a spike in the number of calls to police involving credit card scams.
Scammers are calling people on the phone claiming to be from their credit card company and telling them that they have fraudulent transactions on their credit card.
People are then asked to help the scammers to catch “the supposed fraudsters” by getting them to purchase pre-paid credit cards and to ensure they do not tell anyone about it.
In a news release on Tuesday afternoon, the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force noted “legitimate organizations and businesses will never ask citizens to purchase pre-paid credit or gift cards, and will never enlist citizens to help them catch criminals.”
