Students at Glen Falls School in east Saint John will be learning from home on Tuesday.
It comes after the K-5 school was damaged in a fire that broke out on Saturday evening.
Firefighters were met with thick black smoke coming from multiple doors when they arrived around 8 p.m., according to acting platoon chief Mark Arrand.
“Crews immediately upgraded to a structure fire, full response, and made a pretty quick attack of the fire,” Arrand told our newsroom at the scene Saturday evening.
About 20 firefighters remained on scene for about three hours to knock down the flames and ventilate the building, he said.
No word yet on what sparked the fire or how much damage was caused, but no injuries were reported.
In an email sent to families over the weekend, superintendent Zoё Watson encouraged parents and guardians to speak with their children about any stress or anxiety they are feeling as a result of the fire.
