On October 6 and 7, NB Power will be conducting an exercise at multiple locations, including the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station.
Manager of Regulatory Affairs and Emergency Preparedness at NB Power, Nick Reicker, said the exercise is spread out across all respective emergency facilities.
“There will be aspects of in-person participants, and there will be virtual play, so we are utilizing all platforms we have available.”
During the exercise, staff will be exposed to a challenging scenario that requires them to respond to a simulated event.
“This is designed to test our emergency plans and procedures, and we include components such as radiological surveys and deployment of emergency mitigating equipment, which is designed to provide the station with additional defenses when responding to emergencies,” Reicker said.
The exercise will involve 40 agencies and roughly 1,000 participants.
