The New Brunswick man known by many as “Canada’s Grandpa” has passed away at the age of 110.
Arnold Hawkins of Beaver Harbour died peacefully Saturday evening surrounded by family members.
“Beaver Harbour has lost its own local legend,” his family said in a Facebook post late Sunday afternoon.
Hawkins, who was believed to be the oldest Canadian-born man, received an outpouring of support for his 110th birthday in January.
His family had hoped to collect 110 birthday cards to mark the occasion but instead received well over 6,000 from around the world.
