Several university and college campuses in New Brunswick’s three largest cities have been evacuated and people are being told to stay away.
That includes the University of New Brunswick campuses in Fredericton, Saint John and Moncton, and the St. Thomas University campus in Fredericton.
New Brunswick Community College has also asked everyone to leave its Fredericton campus and the Allied Health Education Centre in Saint John.
At 3:21 p.m., a tweet from UNB said there is an “ongoing investigation and at this time, there is not an immediate threat”.
It noted the evacuation at both campuses along with the Moncton site calling it a “precautionary measure”.
UNB officials also said they are following the direction of local police authorities and the situation is continuously being reassessed.
There is an ongoing investigation taking place at UNB. At this time, there is not an immediate threat. We have evacuated both campuses and the Moncton site as a precautionary measure. All events are cancelled and access to campuses is restricted until further notice.

Just before 1 p.m. Friday, the Fredericton Police Force said they were “investigating a file” at UNB and asked the public to avoid the area.
About 15 minutes later, the police force posted on Twitter that the UNB campus was being evacuated.
“The UNB Fredericton campus is evacuating based on their policies and procedures. Police are on scene to help and investigate the cause,” said the tweet.
Police remained on scene as of 2:40 p.m. Friday and continued to ask the public to avoid the area.
As a precautionary measure, we are evacuating the UNB Fredericton and UNB Saint John campuses and the Moncton site immediately. Residence students should shelter in place. Further details will be provided as soon as they become available.
