New Brunswick will be spared any significant impact from Tropical Depression Henri according to the Canadian Hurricane Centre.
Henri has been pounding New York and New England with strong winds, storm surges and relentless rain.
Downgraded from a hurricane, Tropical Storm Henri made landfall early Sunday afternoon along the coast of Rhode Island.
Environment Canada meteorologist Jill Maepea says the remnants of the storm are heading eastward toward the Maritimes.
“We will see some rain develop out ahead of this system and we’re expecting a few light showers today. But basically the main rain expected for New Brunswick will begin this evening and in the overnight hours.”
Maepea says rainfall amounts in New Brunswick should be less than 40 millimetres but some downpours are possible.
“We’re anticipating a heavier band of rain to develop in a southwest to northeast line throughout the province. Localized amounts could reach 50 millimetres as we will see convection associated with Henri so we will see some embedded thunderstorms.”
Although the wind won’t be a factor here, Maepea adds Henri will definitely bring tropical air with higher humidity.
