Distressed Hiker Rescued From Fundy Footpath

Fire officials say a hiker in distress had to be rescued from the Fundy Footpath on Monday afternoon.

Bill Wanamaker, chief of the Sussex Fire Department, said crews were called to the scene east of Martin Head just before noon.

“The fire department, DNR, RCMP, and Ambulance New Brunswick were all dispatched in there,” Wanamaker said in a phone interview Monday afternoon.

“They gave them whatever aid they could and then they just come up with a plan to get them out safe

The plan, according to Wanamaker, involved taking the patient to the beach area and transporting them back to Martin Head using the department’s Zodiac boat.

“It’s easier than trying to hike out,” he said.

Cpl. Hans Ouellette, a spokesperson for the New Brunswick RCMP, confirmed that members from the Sussex detachment helped with the rescue, which was led by the fire department.

There was no immediate word on the condition of the patient.
