Seven people were rescued after a boat fire on the Kennebecasis River on Wednesday morning.
The call came in about 9:45 a.m.
Saint John Fire Department crews responded with their boat and were assisted by In Shore Rescue from the Coast Guard.
Platoon Chief Al McLeod said the people on the boat were safe and accounted for on Long Island.
“When they got there, the boat was fully involved. In the process of extinguishing the fire, the hull came apart and it sank,” McLeod said.
None of the seven people on the boat were injured.
RCMP, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, the Long Reach, Peninsula and the Kennebecasis Valley fire departments also helped out.
The Department of Environment has been informed and the cause of the fire on the boat is being investigated.
