Less than 48 hours after New Brunswick entered the Green level, the province has reported 18 new cases of COVID-19.
The cases were discovered over a two-day period, Saturday and Today, as the province announced last week that cases would not be updated on the weekend unless there is a spike.
The 17 cases in Zone 1 (Moncton region) are as follows:
· Two people under 19;
· 11 people 20-29;
· Three people 30-39; and;
· One person 40-49.
Nine cases are a contact of previously confirmed cases, six cases are under investigation and two are travel-related.
The one case in Zone 2 (Saint John region) is an individual 20-29. The case is travel-related.
New Brunswick’s active case count has jumped to 37, the most since June 25. There are no hospitalizations.
“With the number of new cases over the weekend, the importance of getting vaccinated is stronger than ever,” said chief medical officer of health, Dr. Jennifer Russell, in a news release issued on Sunday afternoon.
“Getting vaccinated will not only reduce your risk of contracting COVID-19 and of being seriously ill, it will also help to protect your family, friends and our health-care system. Should you have any COVID-19 symptoms, even mild ones, please get tested.”
Public Health has also updated the statistics on New Brunswick’s vaccine rollout.
67.9% of the eligible population is now considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19, up from the 66.7% reported on Friday.
82.3% of New Brunswickers 12 and older have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
The province is offering vaccination clinics on New Brunswick Day.
