With COVID-19 restrictions lifting across the country, a new survey has found many Canadians are ready to return to nature.
An estimated 3.1 million households plan to go camping this year and more than 500,000 plan to camp for the first time, according to the findings from a special Canada Edition of the Kampgrounds of America (KOA) Monthly Research Report.
Sixty-seven per cent said they want to get out and camp immediately or very soon.
Seventy-seven per cent of all campers said they have plans to make up some or all of their missed camping trips due to the pandemic, by taking planning outings later this summer and into the fall.
The survey also found those asked felt camping is a safer alternative compared to other forms of travel.
Who will they be planning to go with? It was almost an even split plan to camp with close friends and family or only with immediate family.
The top three chosen camping destinations were British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario…
Campers are looking forward to camping most in provincial park campgrounds, followed by Canadian national park campgrounds and private campgrounds.
