Canada will have received 50 million COVID-19 vaccine doses by the end of June, and 68 million by the end of July, according to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Speaking from self-isolation at Rideau Cottage, Trudeau discussed the influx of vaccines and the next steps for reopening.
“Canada is getting millions more Moderna doses brought forward from our summer shipment schedule into June, and we’re locking in shipments for the first half of July. We’ve worked hard with Moderna to make this happen, and we’re also getting extra doses from the U.S.”
Trudeau said the exact size of the shipments will be announced by the Minister of public services and procurement, Anita Anand on Friday Afternoon. Details on the arrival of Moderna’s shipments will be released next week.
According to the Government of Canada, as of June 16 at 1:00 pm, over 34 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been distributed across the nation.
Trudeau says he is very hopeful that every Canadian who wants to, can be fully vaccinated by September.
The Prime Minister answered questions on vaccination proof as the country turns its sights towards reopening.
He says they are working on two phases, the initial phase will focus on the ArriveCAN app, with the ability to upload a picture of vaccination proof.
In the fall, Canadians can expect a national certification that will be accepted around the world.
