A manhunt is over in northwestern New Brunswick after a suspect who allegedly fired shots at RCMP was arrested in Fredericton on Sunday afternoon.
Around 4 p.m., 25-year-old Stephen Perley, Jr. was taken into custody in the Devon area of Fredericton and a man and woman were also arrested at the scene.
On Friday evening, Mounties were called to a complaint in Medford, north of Tobique Narrows, about a man who discharged a firearm with several people around including a child.
The man fled in a vehicle and shot at police, striking a cruiser with bullets.
Mounties sent an Alert Ready message to the area on Friday night which indicated a search was underway for a man believed to be armed and dangerous and residents were urged to stay inside.
Another Alert Ready message was sent on Saturday morning which told residents to be vigilant but they could leave their homes.
On Saturday, the suspect’s vehicle was found in a ditch in the Tobique Narrows area and a 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene.
As the investigation continued, RCMP became aware there were two people in the vehicle when the firearm was discharged at police.
On Sunday, 21-year-old McKenzie Moir of Bloomfield Ridge was charged with one count of discharging a firearm with intent and is being held in custody pending a court appearance in Woodstock on Monday.
The investigation is ongoing.
