The former residential school site in Shubenacadie is being scanned for human remains.
Work began over the weekend to find out if any unmarked graves are present at the Nova Scotia site.
The ground search is being led by the Sipekne’katik First Nation.
Experts are using the same radar technology which led to the discovery of 215 unmarked graves in Kamloops last month.
The ground scans will take a few weeks to complete.
The Shubenacadie Residential School was open from 1930 to 1967, it was the only Indian Residential School in the Maritimes as children were taken from all over the region to attend.
It was first managed by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Halifax and later the Missionary Oblates of Marie Immaculate, and staffed by the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul of Halifax.
