A familiar face around the Norton council table for the past four terms will serve as the village’s mayor for the next term.
Ann-Marie Snyder was elected by acclamation after outgoing mayor Julie Booth decided not to re-offer.
“I’ve been on council for 17 years so it just kind of felt like it was the right time to make that move,” Snyder said in an interview Wednesday.
Snyder was the only person to put her name forward for mayor in the village, which has a population of 1,382 and 986 eligible voters.
When asked what she hopes to accomplish over the next four years, Snyder said the village just needs to keep doing what it has been doing.
“We’ve had a lot of success in the last 20 years,” she said. “Our community has grown, we’ve done a lot and haven’t had to finance a lot.”
“We haven’t raised the taxes here in Norton in basically 17 years. I think we’ve done a great job of balancing our budget and keeping costs low and looking for the best deals that we can for our residents.”
Four councillor-elects will be joining Snyder around the council table. They include incumbents Nicole Clements, Harold Keith and Jeff Gaunce, along with former mayor Wendy Alcorn.
