The province is reminding leisure travellers about new self-isolation requirements which begin at midnight.
These travellers will be required to self-isolate at designated hotels throughout the province for a seven day period at their own expense.
On day five, travellers will be required to take a COVID test and if the result is negative they can complete the remainder of their 14-day isolation period at home but must be alone.
A second COVID test will be required on day 10.
The Canadian Red Cross will be the coordinator of the isolation hotels and the cost to travellers will be about $200 per day.
Also at midnight, rotational workers must self-isolate for 14 days apart from others when they return but if they choose to isolate at home, everyone in the household must also self-isolate.
Truck drivers and cross-border commuters will also have to follow modified self-isolation guidelines for 14 days including staying home at all times except for medical reasons or to get necessities as long as they avoid contact with others.
Other members of their households will not have to self-isolate.
Starting Sunday at midnight, post-secondary students returning from COVID-19 hot zones – such as the Halifax region – and any others helping them must stay at a designated isolation hotel with the costs covered by the provincial government.
Anyone who enters the province must register their travel online or call 1-833-948-2800.
As another reminder, the fine for violating the province’s mandatory order has increased from $292.50 to $580.50.
