The daughter of Saint John’s outgoing mayor is looking for a seat around the council table.
Mariah Darling announced Friday that she is running for one of two council positions in Ward 3.
“I’m running for council because I’m passionate about Saint John and its citizens, and I want to be a part of helping our community be open to what’s next,” Darling said in a news release.
Darling said as a queer, non-binary young adult, she wants to serve as a voice for Saint John’s diverse and vulnerable populations.
“I will bring that perspective to council, and work to ensure our city is open to citizens, open to people from all walks of life, and open to our partners in business, government and the region. That kind of diversity is what’s going to create opportunities for our city,” she said.
Voters will head to the polls on May 10.
