The city’s police force blames last fall’s cyber attack for delaying the launch of its body-worn camera program.
Now, police spokesperson Jim Hennessey says they still haven’t picked a date to unveil the program that was announced last summer after the ransomware attack that took down the city’s network in November.
“Due to the cyber incident in the fall of 2020, the Body Worn Camera Program implementation for the Saint John Police Force had to be rescheduled,” said Spokesperson Jim Hennessey in a statement to Acadia Broadcasting.
“As we continue to re-establish our internal programming, a decision on the activation and rollout date of the Body Worn Cameras, will be decided upon and shared with citizens.”
The force announced the $770,000 program last July, saying all front-line officers would be equipped with body cameras by November 2020.
That target was later pushed back to the end of the year, in part due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
