Public Health says a fourth case of the U.K. variant of COVID-19 is suspected in New Brunswick.
Spokesperson Bruce Macfarlane confirmed the suspected case in an email early Friday afternoon.
“A close contact of a previous U.K. variant confirmed case has tested positive for COVID-19 and it is suspected they have the variant as well,” Macfarlane wrote.
Macfarlane said a sample for sequencing is being sent to the National Microbiology Laboratory for confirmation.
“In the meantime, the individual is being treated as if they have the variant,” he said.
Three cases of the U.K. variant have been identified in New Brunswick to date. They were announced on Tuesday.
