People’s Alliance leader Kris Austin has been frustrated over the last 10 months while serving on the All Party COVID-19 cabinet committee.
He felt in some cases the committee’s decisions haven’t been made with any solid data to justify them.
Austin points out what he calls “continuous failures” when it comes to communicating information about phases, zones and the changing rules.
“How can people be expected to take the necessary precautions if the information is vague? People need to have a better sense of where COVID cases are increasing as it relates to their specific communities,” he said.
Austin said people came to understand what the Red phase meant based on what they experienced last spring with the total lockdown. The rules around red, in its current state, have been “so watered down they are now meaningless to most people”.
He finds some of these rules and decisions “arbitrary and unenforceable” adding the constant changes breed confusion.
Austin also referred to a lack of specific information in relation to outbreaks within a region.
He has maintained the provincial health zones are too large for the public to understand the threat within their own local area.
