Public Health reported 30 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, the second-highest daily total since the pandemic began.
That brings the total number of active cases to 171, breaking the record of 143 set Friday.
166 cases have been announced since January 1, which is 22 per cent of the province’s total of 765 cases found since the pandemic began.
The province discovered cases in five different health zones. The breakdown is as follows:
- Zone 1 (Moncton): 6
- Zone 2 (Saint John): 3
- Zone 3 (Fredericton): 8
- Zone 4 (Edmundston): 7
- Zone 5 (Campbellton): 6
In a news release, Public Health said the source for all of the new cases is under investigation.
The province also announced that four cases were found at schools in zone three, including three cases at Woodstock High School and another at Townsview School in Woodstock.
As a result, all students and staff of those two schools are required to self-isolate this weekend to allow for contact tracing to catch up on the outbreak.
Two schools in zone 5, Académie Notre-Dame in Dalhousie and Polyvalente Roland-Pépin in Campbellton, also had confirmed cases, and the province says families will be contacted if any changes are announced.
Public Health said anyone who has been in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 will be contacted.
Meanwhile, Shannex reported one new resident case and two additional employee cases at Parkland Saint John’s Tucker Hall late Saturday evening.
That is in addition to two resident cases and one additional employee reported Friday, which included two cases announced by Public Health earlier in the day Friday.
To date, there have been 24 cases at the Tucker Hall nursing home, including 14 residents and 10 employees.
Shannex said retesting of residents and employees of Tucker Hall is expected to take place Monday and Thursday.
