Mounties say the search for a missing 68-year-old woman from Charlotte County has been scaled back and is now considered a recovery effort.
Wilhelmina (Wilma) Catherine Montgomery was last seen in Saint Andrews on Dec. 7 and was reported missing to police the next day.
An extensive search has been taking place over the past week or so involving a number of agencies and volunteers.
RCMP Sgt. Chris Henderson says they now believe there’s a “strong likelihood” that Montgomery went into the water.
“Despite what we hoped were some promising leads, we have unfortunately not been able to locate Wilma Montgomery,” said Henderson in a news release Tuesday.
Even though the search being scaled back, police said they continue to look for Montgomery using “various methods.”
Dozens of people have been involved in the search, including RCMP officers, the underwater recovery team, air services, a drone, volunteers from several Ground Search and Rescue teams, a canine, officers with the Department of Justice and Public Safety and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, and community members.
Anyone who may have information is asked to call the Saint Andrews RCMP detachment at 506-755-1130.
