The effects of a slow-moving and intense low pressure system are now being felt throughout the region.
Environment Canada has issued rainfall warnings for nearly all of New Brunswick, except for eastern regions.
Rainfall amounts of between 80 and 120 millimetres are expected by Wednesday morning, according to forecasters.
But the national weather agency says extreme southwestern regions could see as much as 180 millimetres.
Environment Canada says similar events in the past have caused road washouts and localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Water is pooling on a number of roads in Greater Saint John as of Tuesday morning, but there are no major issues to report so far.
