One holiday fundraiser had to change how it operates but it will still go ahead.
The Bare Necessities Campaign by the Saint John Region Chamber of Commerce normally sees people donate personal care items such as travel-size shampoo and toothpaste which are then distributed to local charities.
Chamber CEO David Duplisea said because of the public health protocols they won’t physically collecting items this year.
“We decided that we would launch the ‘Big Pivot Campaign’ and this would be a way of enabling the community with a way to donate and help this needy segment of our population,” Duplisea said.
In 2019, the Bare Necessities assisted more than twenty local charities.
Duplisea adds they have partnered with the Community Foundation who has the capability for online donations and tax receipts.
“They have the distribution channel and processes that will enable this for the online capacity. It’s broadening, it’s reaching out and becoming much more collaborative,” Duplisea said.
Donations can be made until December 16th.
Duplisea said since the campaign launched they have raised $4000.
By the time the campaign closes on December 16th, they hope to raise $10,000.
