An appeal from President-elect Joe Biden for everyone to work together, regardless of party colour.
In his first address Saturday night since winning the election earlier in the day, he acknowledged the disappointment of millions of President Trump supporters, but added the country has always prevailed.
“Lincoln, in 1860, coming to save the Union. FDR, in 1932, promising a beleaguered country a new deal. JFK, in 1960, promising a new frontier,” noted Biden.
He also thanked his supporters, the many people who worked the polling stations, counted the ballots, and, honoured President Barack Obama.
The President-elect also wasting no time in outlining his plan while in office, pointing to the necessity of confronting the great battles of our time. “The battle to control the virus, the battle to build prosperity, the battle to secure your family’s health care, the battle to achieve racial justice and route out systemic racism in this country.”
Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris introduced him, with Biden joking that she and her family had no choice but to join his family.
