The Anglophone East School District is trying to put parents at ease after a volunteer Basketball Coach was charged with making child pornography.
A letter was sent out Monday to parents from Riverview schools.
It says the district takes this situation very seriously, “In accordance with our School Crisis Planning we will have counselors and other resources available for students and staff if they need them.”
It adds, the district and school administration are continuing to work with RCMP during the investigation.
“While we have legal and privacy limitations on what we can say specifically about this situation, we feel that open communication is important and wanted to share what we could. We understand situations such as this are concerning to parents, students, teachers and the greater community. We want to assure you that ASD-E will remain vigilant in our efforts to make our schools a safe place to learn and teach. When we receive more information, we will share it with you,” the letter states.
Thirty-two-year-old Shawn Curtis Nickerson was arrested on Sunday. He is scheduled to appear in Moncton court again on Wednesday for a bail hearing.
