No answers yet as to what caused a fire at American Iron and Metal (AIM) in west Saint John on Thursday night.
Fire crews were called to the scene on the west side of Port Saint John shortly after 10:30 p.m.
Platoon Chief Barry Oickle says when crews arrived on the scene, there was a large volume of fire and explosions.
Oickle says the fire involved separator buildings which handles fluff at the recycling facility.
Fire crews remained on scene for over five hours to control the fire.
“At this time, the cause of the fire remains unknown,” said a Facebook post from American Iron and Metal on Friday morning. “AIM is cooperating with the fire department and local authorities to determine the exact cause of the blaze.”
Port Saint John had activated its Emergency Operations Centre but it was deactivated Friday morning.
